My name is Timea Tenkei. I graduated from Alliant International University in 2005 within the field of Marriage and Family Therapy. My undergraduate degree is Psychology and I received that degree from the City University of New York in 2002. During my undergraduate and graduate education I have interned at two different organization. First, I interned at the Center for HIV Educational Studies and Training in New York city, where I had the opportunity to learn a great deal about the research aspect of psychology working on a study, that they have conducted with sexually compulsive gay men. The study allowed me to familiarize myself with quantitative methods within research and helped me to decide what area of Psychology I would like further get into. I became very interested in the dynamics of relationships; how and by what are they influenced throughout the life span. During my graduate program, I have interned at Homestart Inc., which is a government funded organization helping low-income families in crises. Within the agency, I had the opportunity to treat children and couples in high stress situations and facilitate a group for adults who have had a history of emotional, physical or sexual abuse as children. Upon completion of my masters degree, I became further interested in couples therapy and sex therapy and begun working in Dr Liliana Cabouli’s Strategic Experiential Family Therapy Institute as an Intern. Therapy became my passion, because I believe in its powerful changing force on individuals and on relationships. My areas of experience are: working with self esteem, depression, sexual-emotional-physical abuse, life-transition issues, communication difficulties, and sex therapy.
